The death of Rock Bandage

A couple years ago, I was really big into Rock Band, playing regularly with my group of friends. I was always waiting for the next announcement of DLC, hoping it would contain a great song that I loved or a new song that I could fall in love with. The only way to find out the release list for the next DLC was to find the post on the Rock Band forums, which was posted about a week before the release. I figured there was probably a fansite made for this, that announced the DLC and played some samples of the songs that came on. So I searched and searched, but found nothing… just a few sites here and there, but none that were updated regularly with solid info. Bewildered by this, I decided to craft one of my own.

And so, Rock Bandage was born.

My Rock Band fansite had the info about the DLC as soon as it was announced, and I uploaded the songs on Youtube for everyone to listen to. Here’s my Youtube channel for the website, which is still up, but no longer updated. The site did pretty well for a while, but after a while, it became too much work for me. Also, most of the songs I put on Youtube were taken down because of copyright issues from the bands. And while I was building my site, Rock Band Content was launched, which was pretty much the same as my site, but less flashy and with a lot more info. They’re still up and running, if anyone wants to check it out.

With Rock Band Content around, and most of my work being destroyed by Youtube, I didn’t see a reason to pour so much time and effort into something that was not going to be seen in the first place. I do feel terrible about leaving my readers without saying anything, so any of my classic Rock Bandage folk are reading this, sorry about that!

Rock Band 2 details

As we all now know, Rock Band 2 is coming out for the Xbox 360 this September, and will be fully backwards compatible with the previous instruments as well as all the downloadable content you've gotten. Here's some new info on the game, a rumored tracklist and some other details.

Rumor 1 - All Rock Band 1 tracks will be available to download for free:

Xbox360.IGN.com editor Nate Ahearn had this to say in a discussion on GHWT vs Rock Band 2:

Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour create an interesting situation for gamers. If you bought Rock Band 1 then chances are you’ll feel cheated by the release of RB2, thus you’d think that GHWT would be the way to go as it somewhat redefines the music gaming genre. However, if you didn’t buy the first Rock Band then I would absolutely agree with notagoth. Immediately upon purchasing Rock Band 2 you’ll have the ability to download a huge library of songs, as well as all of the songs off of the original disc as a free download. Then again, Guitar Hero World Tour does allow users to create and share their own songs, so it’s really only a matter of time until the Rock Band library is eclipsed. At the end of the day it could come down to which series has earned your allegiance over the last year since RB’s original release.

Rumor 2 - The Tracklist:
